After the tight win at home against Warnica Star the Olympians set out to play a match against title candidate Excelsior '20 in Schiedam. Expecting to play on a grass wicket with overcast conditions in the morning it was a crucial toss, which we lost. Olympia was sent in with a clear cut message from the captain, lower your stance and play straight. The opening partnership (9) set the tone for the game. The wicket was slow and keeping low, with the odd one skidding through. The way the wickets fells (except for S. Geenevasen (15), N. Fundter en S. Silva), was typical for the way the wicket behaved. A lot of guys early in the shots and expecting more bounce.
Niels (25) and Silva (39) fought hard and played some very nice shots and it looked like rebuilding the innings for Olympia (Niels came in at 30/3 and Silva at 42/5) but after a miscommunication Niels was run out. After that moment wickets kept falling. If it was not for a last wicket stand of 33 (between Silva and R. Tuba), Olympia's innings wouldn't have passed the three figure mark.
Even though the score was below par the Olympians set out to fight for the cause. The first wicket (M. van Gelderen for 8, bowled Silva) fell quickly but after that Excelsior didn't give away a lot of chances. The controversial catch from Silva at point (R. van Gelderen 17) of the bowling W. van Huut sparked the innings shortly but Z. Chaudhary (44) and T. Etman (31) finished the innings for Excelsior with some fine shots.
Next week is P.S.V. Eindhoven the opponent at home. The away game was narrowly lost so Olympia 1 will be eager to win this one.
